LANL Institute for Advanced Studies
The Institute for Advanced Studies is one of the five academically-lead institutes within LANL. It was formed in 2006 by a Teaming Agreement between the three New Mexico Universities and Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS, LLC), which operates LANL. The IAS includes the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, and New Mexico Tech.
The IAS combines the strengths New Mexico's research universities with the unique capabilities of Los Alamos National Laboratory to promote research and educational opportunities. Key elements of our program includes support for
- Collaboration between LANL and the New Mexico Universities.
- Partner institutions to seek new funding opportunities.
- Educational opportunities for New Mexico students.
- Recruitment, retention, and professional development to attract and keep the best scientists in New Mexico.
- Strategic connections with the national and international scientific community in our thrust areas.
The IAS funds activities that support these objectives. We make a priority of supporting in our focus areas:
- Information Science and Technology
- Astrophysics, Cosmology, and Fundamental Physics
- Emerging Healthcare
- Threat Reduction
- Energy: Systems, Technology, Environment
